In 1990, Matsushita opened a research and development facility in Irvine, California dubbed "Matsushita Avionics Development Corporation." In 1995, MADC formally joined forces with Panasonic Avionics Corporation under the name "Panasonic Avionics Corporation.

At the close of 1999 this Southern California operation moved its corporate, engineering, production and administrative operations from Irvine to a brand new state-of-the-art facility in nearby Lake Forest. The new facility features a System Test Lab twice the size of its former facility, a Marketing Demonstration room in which customers can interact with fully-functional IFE system mockups, and an extensive training facility.
