New system offers full range of entertainment and connectivity options
Seattle - As announced on September 6, 2002 by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Matsushita Avionics Systems Corporation (MAS) has been selected by KLM to provide the In-Flight Entertainment system for the airline’s new intercontinental fleet of Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. Starting in October 2003, KLM will take delivery of its new 777s, which will roll out with MAS System 3000
.
System 3000 is MAS’ flagship product. It provides passengers hundreds of hours of entertainment content, including a multilingual selection of a different movie title for almost every passenger onboard the 327-seat 777-200ER, up to 1000 hours of music entertainment, computer games, in-flight information and much more. Since the system is fully interactive, passengers will be able to start, stop, pause and resume their entertainment whenever they wish.
System 3000 also provides proven connectivity options, as well as an easy upgrade path for passenger laptop connectivity utilizing Ethernet. The upgrade path, christened System 3000i (the "i" is for Internet), offers broadband provisioning so that airlines can offer their passengers broadband connectivity when-ever they are positioned to do so.
System 3000`s full range of connectivity and entertainment options can be expanded even further by MASMediaTM, the content arm of MAS. MASMedia offers airlines hundreds of pages of multimedia content from leading online destinations; an impressive array of new-generation games including multiplayer interactive games; iXplorTM, a moving map application that lets passengers track their flight and explore their world from their seat; live text news that is refreshed hourly; Inflight Communicator software with seatback email and mobile text messaging capabilities; and many other content options.
KLM is currently developing a broad new range of programs to take full advantage of every facet offered by System 3000. |
