nseat and overhead IFE covered by agreement; Service offered on domestic and international flights
Seattle - Matsushita Avionics Systems Corporation (MAS) announces an innovative service arrangement with Delta Air Lines. Delta selected MAS to provide movie tape provisioning services for all of Delta's inseat and overhead Inflight Entertainment video systems - not only MAS IFE systems, but also those of a major IFE competitor.
Under the terms of the three-year agreement, MAS will provide this videotape provisioning service to aircraft on Delta`’ international and domestic flights. Services will include daily change-out of movie tapes for all international and long-haul domestic flights, and change-out of tapes twice a month for domestic and Latin American routes. Additionally, MAS will handle on-call replacement of videotapes due to flight changes or damage, as well as missing tape replacements.
Shelli Keagle, Delta Air Line’s General Manager, On Board Media and Amenities, said, "Matsushita has exceeded Delta’s expectations with their response to our video provisioning program. They created a program that proactively applied technology to streamline a previously labor intensive task. They stepped up to the plate with a thoroughly planned implementation."
Initially MAS will service Delta aircraft at airports in Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Paris, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. At Delta’s request, other service locations may be added at a later date.
Gerald Betts, General Manager of Matsushita Maintenance Services for MAS, explained that although "some airlines prefer to have their own staff maintain and service IFE, it can be both an added burden and an added expense for an airline. MAS has a global infrastructure with maintenance staff at some 40 airports worldwide for just this purpose. We’re delighted that Delta has selected us to handle their movie provisioning, and we’re intent on keeping their trust."
According to Alan Pellegrini, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Operations for MAS, "IFE continues to gain importance in the air transport market, but airlines aren’t always positioned to handle system maintenance and provisioning themselves. Providing a single source for media provisioning and other services - even on competitor systems - is one way MAS can help our customers. We’re actively exploring other innovative provisioning and maintenance possibilities." |
